AS any angler knows, wild populations of Australian Bass are few and far between. “Spot X”s are very well guarded secrets shared only among the tightest of fishing mates and finding unfished water is becoming harder and harder.

That being said it was a privilege indeed to spend the weekend chasing some of these snag hugging brutes with my old dad. Although some fish displayed some understandable battle scars from the recent massive floods that have torn through up this way, they still hit like semi trailers and were all released to fight another day.

Megabass Anthraxs, Squidgy spinnerbaits, Cultiva hard bodies and Mazzy Pop surface runners all did the damage. The presence of some dazzling azure kingfishers, lungfish and eastern water dragons all added to the wild experience. Perfect weather, some cracking river bass and back home in time for Mother’s Day lunch to keep my brownie points with the boss…
