A SYDNEY man holidaying at The Entrance has been found drowned after being washed out to sea last night.
The Daily Telegraph reports the man had left his accommodation around 7.30pm to go prwaning in The Entrance channel. The man’s wife raised the alarm when he failed to return by about 3.30am.
Tuggerah Lakes duty officer Inspector Stephen Eggleton said the 67-year-old from Five Dock was wearing waders and may have lost his footing at the notorious spot.
A search was launched at first light this morning before the Westpac Rescue Helicopter spotted the man’s body floating off Soldiers Beach a few kilometres north of the channel about 9:45am.
Insp Eggleton said police had earlier recovered the man’s bicycle and a foam esky near where he is believed to have entered the water.
“At this stage we’re not too sure (what’s happened to him), whether he’s lost his footing somewhere in the channel, it’s known to run pretty fairly quickly through there and he’s been taken out with the channel itself,” he said.
