Adelaide Game Fishing Club angler Adam Todd recently lodged a State and National record claim for an 11kg gummy shark taken on 1kg line.
The gummy shark was caught south of Port Augusta at the top of Spencer Gulf in South Australia during October aboard his 5m Southern Star Stealth boat, Retribution. He was fishing together with Brad Smith over a cork-weed basin in 12ft of water when a school of gummy sharks arrived on the scene.
The boys caught and released 14 gummy sharks in total, which followed the tagging and releasing of a 22kg yellowtail kingfish earlier in the day.
Using snook fillet on a circle hook, Adam said the record gummy ran some 200m before being chased and eventually landed. The gummy shark was kept alive in the boat’s live-well, and after the official weigh-in back at the boat ramp, was tagged and released.
