Report: Coffs goes off!

FISHING World reader Tim Angus reports there’s currently some hot winter pelagic fishing to be had on the NSW North Coast. If you’re looking to stave off the winter blues, Coffs Harbour looks like the place to be…

Tim Angus: Fished Coff’s Harbour on Saturday with Mike Bonnici, here’s how the story goes:

Started off in the early parts of the day chasing snapper on the inshore reefs, catching six nice reds up to 3 kg and losing a few good ones to the reef.

During our plastic session on the snapper we were snipped off a few times to what we believed were Spanish [mackerel]…

This made us change tactics and gather bait before heading to the islands try our luck for them… It certainly paid off.

We ended up with 11 big Spanish up to 24kg (average around 15kg), two big kings both 15kg, 18kg wahoo, and a small yellowfin.

The fish were caught on both slowed trolled live baits (tailor, slimys) and stick baits…. Most of the better fish were actually taken on the stick baits (Sebile Stick Shadd was dynamite).

We had another bunch of mates fishing alongside us and they also caught six nice Spanish.

Drool at the results of Tim and Mike’s weekend Coffs Harbour outing below!
