REPORT: Southerners invade in State of Origin lead up

WHILE the cold snap that’s hit Brisbane and surrounds has seen many south-east Queenslanders scramble to find gloves, beanies and thermal undies, local anglers are reaching for their fishing rods – and for good reason.

The usual winter species have come on early in Queensland and it’s getting a little crazy as fish species usually associated with waters south of the border such as tailor, snapper, Aussie sambos and even hairtail have crossed the border to be back on the piscatorial menu (Ed: Perhaps an omen for a NSW Blues State Of Origin takeover tomorrow night Kris?!).

Hairtail bite – this hungry southern visitor received a nasty welcome.

Anglers that have been braving the frost are coming up trumps and are usually seeing good mornings out on the water. Reports of excellent jewfish and tailor are enough to get the polar fleece clad brigade venturing out early to throw lures around.

So if you’re tossing up whether to hit the snooze button on your alarm, don’t, get out there as the fish around Brisbane are hungry!

The local trevally are also out in force.

What's your reaction?
