SUNDAY March 22 saw Round 3 of the very popular Southern Bream Series (SBS) run by the Basin Lure and Fly Anglers Inc and held on the Clyde River at Batemans Bay – the event was proudly sponsored by Hobie Fishing.
There were 43 boating teams entered and 30 kayak competitors. The morning provided a very fresh start with beautiful calm conditions.
The final winner in the Boating section was Team Need a Win (Paul Wilson and Liam Curruthers) with a 5/5 bag total 3.450kg.
Second place went to Team SaltNFresh (Garry King and Shaun Johnson) with a 5/5 bag total 3.250kg; third was Team Garmin/Honda Marine (Steve Gill and Andrew Rae) with a 5/5 bag total 3.140kg.
Fourth place was Team Ecogear/Totally Immersed (Craig Coughlan and Jason Price) with a 5/5 bag total 3.110kg; fifth was Team Fish It (William Longani and Eric Faes) with a 5/5 bag total 2.340kg.
In the Boating section only seven teams achieved their full bag of five fish and there were a total of 102 fish taken for a combined weight of 49.380kg for 85 anglers. The Austackle Big Bream prize was taken out by Shaun Johnson from Team SaltNFresh with a very nice 1.030kg fish.
The cash payouts for the Top 5 were: 1st $1,677, 2nd $838, 3rd $420, 4th $250 and 5th $168.
Shaun Johnson landed the biggest bream for the event with this chunky 1.030kg fish.
The Kayak section was won by Team Prolure Australia (Luke Kay) with a 3/3 bag total 1.690kg; second went to Eric Wood – with a 3/3 bag total 1.560kg; Eric Wood also took out the Austackle Big Bream prize with a solid 0.810kg fish; third place went to Team Gladiator Tackle (Carl Dubois) with a 3/3 bag total 1.390kg.
In the Kayak section there were a total of 44 fish weighed in for a combined weight of 19.460kg for 30 anglers.
Cash payouts for the Top 3 were: 1st $750, 2nd $383 and 3rd $232.
