THE sheer number of threadline reels on the Australian market these days is mind-blowing. The best value threadline reel I’ve used for a long time is the Ecooda Chronic CS-2000, which has been my workhorse light saltwater and bass fishing spin reel for well over 12 months.
In that time it’s caught countless bream, flatties, whiting, tailor, trevally, sambos, bonnies and Australian bass without missing a beat. All the maintenance it has required has been a freshwater spray at the end of each session and the drag is as silky smooth as the day I bought it.
The Ecooda Chronic CS-2000 holds about 140 metres of PE 2 (200 metres of 0.20mm line) and has a snappy gear ratio of 5.1 to 1. I still find it hard to believe that I could get a super smooth threadline reel that features nine ball and roller bearings and carbon fibre drag system for around $139.
For general estuarine and freshwater lure fishing typical of that encountered in my local area on the NSW Central Coast I couldn’t recommend the Ecooda Chronic CS-2000 highly enough. It really is a high performance threadline reel at a mid-range price.
