TESTED: Hobie Map Pocket

LIKE so many Australian anglers I’m really keen on kayak fishing. I’ve owned a Hobie Outback for around 14 months now and really enjoy the many new fishing opportunities it’s opened up for me.

I’ve tried to take a minimalist approach to the way I’m setting up my kayak as I don’t want to overload it with gear. However, there’s one accessory I’ve added to my kayak that has proven invaluable – an extra Hobie Map Pocket.

My Outback came standard with a pocket already installed, but I wanted to add another one for keeping my packets of soft plastic baits such as Gulps within easy reach. It also holds the packets vertically so you don’t lose any of that fish attracting juice. The elastic mesh configuration of the pocket also holds my mobile phone securely in its waterproof pouch.

I don’t think it really matters what type of kayak you own, if you need some extra storage for maps, soft plastic packets or a mobile phone then have a look at the Hobie Map Pocket (part number 78560001). It only took me five minutes to install mine and it’s proven to be a really useful addition to my kayak.
