THE NSW Mid-North coast has turned on ample fishing action this season to allow me to thoroughly field test one of the new rod releases from Samaki on a range of mid-sized game fish and sharks.
The Samaki Vanquish SVQ-631SM is a classy 30 to 50lb spin/jig rod that features X-core blank construction. This manufacturing process results in an incredibly strong rod blank with tremendous pulling power. I found that out during an offshore kayaking trip where big fish hook ups, such as the 26kg wahoo pictured, demanded the use of powerful outfits to turn and pull in game fish of a calibre that would frequently be chased down under power by boat based anglers to gain line.
The Samaki Vanquish SVQ-631SM Spin/Jig rod is 6’3″ long and features quality Fuji componentry including K Guides, deluxe reel seat and graphite gimbal. The removable EVA fighting butt cap allows an angler to fish heavy drag settings on hard fighting game fish without the need to use a gimbal belt if required.
I found the Samaki Vanquish SVQ-631SM capable of applying plenty of pressure to game fish while being extremely comfortable for the angler to use. A great rod blank, top quality componentry and a classy build have resulted in the Samaki Vanquish SVQ-631SM being an extremely versatile blue water spin/jig rod. It’s quickly become my favourite offshore outfit.
