Tough going at Interclub

THE NSW Game Fishing Association Interclub Tournament is recognised as the largest game fishing event in the southern hemisphere. Last weekend saw the culmination of the Port Stephens event with 123 boats having competed from as far away as Tasmania.

All four days were fished, sometimes not in favourable fishing conditions; the seas were at times only fair and the current out wide was raging. Not so high water temperatures on the first weekend of the tournament didn’t help results either.

Considering the tough fishing conditions, some very small boats bought in some very large sharks.

The highlight of this tournament is always the number of marlin tagged and released, and the amount of information compiled by the army of marine biologists waiting for boats to return to port. This year resulted in the recapture of a marlin that had been tagged previous to the tournament.
