VIDEO: Yak in a pack – Sevylor K5 inflatable

KAYAKS and canoes make ideal watercraft for fishing spots well off the beaten track.  Unfortunately, carrying these craft into more remote areas can be a difficult, back breaking task. Thankfully there are other options – such as lightweight inflatable kayaks, like Sevylor’s K5.

The K5’s innovative design allows the entire kayak to fold up into its own backpack, for the ultimate in portability and versatility. The great part of the design is that the backpack itself is utilised as part of the kayak, with the front transport flap (with bungee cord) doubling as a waterproof skirt and storage space and the pack’s lumbar padding as a seat/back support.

A dual action hand pump and two-piece paddle are included in the kit. Unassembled, the paddle pieces slot into pockets either side of the pack and the pump fits neatly in place on the front removable flap, supported by bungee cord.

When fully inflated the K5 measures 3m in length, 91cm in width and features a 130kg weight capacity.

After initial testing by Fisho, this inflatable ‘yak looks ideal for use on day trips to out of the way fishing spots – bass anglers in particular should find a craft such as this ideal for some applications. Inflation takes only a few minutes, and on the water the K5 was easy to paddle, stable and comfortable. We’ll be testing it while fishing over summer so stay tuned for a full review. In the meantime check out the video below.

The Sevylor K5 Kayak is available at BCF stores for around $499.
