THE 2017 Gold Coast Flathead Classic wrapped up late last week with a record number of fishos competing in the popular catch & release tournament.
The Classic, run by the Gold Coast Sports Fishing Club, is now in its 24th year and once again Fishing World was a proud sponsor.
Team lowrance Whyte Boyz took out the Champion team this year with an outstanding effort. The Whyte Boyz scored over 4000 points on day one alone and ended the tournament with a whopping 6037 points! Coming in second place was The Mad Hueys Heritage with Brad Job, Ben Job and Ross McCubbin. And in third place was Team BCF.
Champion Angler went to Brenden Whyte with 2996 points.
Team Fishing World ended up at 65th place while David Green’s Team Dead Fishy came in at 8th place.
The three day event had a mix of weather. Day one was overcast with low winds, while day two was plagued by 30 knot northerlies; even the best teams struggled under those conditions. Day three finished with light winds and sunshine, which provided a good opportunity to catch up on points lost during the previous day.
Some of the winners and stats are listed below, while the full rundown of results can be found at the Flattie Classic’s Facebook page.
