VIDEO: Lone kayak angler lands 170-pound dogtooth tuna

WATCH kayak angler Raf Vargas, who pedalled his Hobie Pro Angler from a Guam beach and, after a two-hour struggle (while also managing his GoPro), lands a pending world-record dogtooth tuna.

Vargas, a Hobie Fishing Team Member, set out alone from a beach on the west side of Guam Island in the far Pacific and pedalled to fish off the westernmost point, about 5 miles away.

“I knew my time was limited,” said Vargas, “with an east wind already growing brisk”. After some time, as Vargas fished a slow-pitch jig near the bottom in 700 feet of water, he hooked something way too big for the 30-pound rig he was fishing. But somehow, two hours later, with no help, he managed to pull into his kayak a tuna about his size. Dogtooth are well known to be one of the very toughest of all tunas and in fact of all game fish. The monster is pending as a new IGFA line-class record.
