IT’S no secret I’m a fan of YETI products. I appreciate well-designed, simple and tough products; gear designed to be used in unforgiving environments and fit for purpose.
I own and regularly use YETI’s Tundra coolers, Panga bags, and Tumbler drink ware range. The latter goes everywhere. They’re simple, easy to clean and insulated for hot and cold drinks. I mostly use mine with water or coffee and occasionally Coke; sometimes even wine and beer find their way into a Tumbler.
Going back a few years and my car was full of empty plastic bottles. Having young kids in the car didn’t help. It was common place to spend a day or a weekend away and buy several water bottles. When the bottle is empty, you buy another, and another.
At the end of a trip it was alarming to see how many bottles were consumed. Sure, I’m responsible enough to recycle the bottles, but it still doesn’t sit easy with me knowing how many plastic bottles are out there.
It’s the same on the water in my Bar Crusher. Thankfully there’s rarely anywhere to buy bottled water while fishing, so bringing your own re-usable bottles is a must. It also seems easy to lose plastic bottles while on the water and further add to the problem.
And it genuinely is a problem. Ive traveled and fished some remote areas, places like PNG and the Kimberley in WA, and the one item you still find is plastic bottles. They’re literally everywhere in the world and our love of convenience is only making matters worse. Reusable containers such as the YETI Tumblers can make a difference.
These days I always bring a 20oz Tumbler or a larger YETI bottle to stay hydrated on the water or in the 4WD. The only problem was, a big day out on the water required more than a mug or small bottle full of water. The solution? The YETI Jug. YETI produces the Jug in two sizes – a half gallon (1893ml) and a one gallon (3785ml).
The Jug features the same quality build as YETI’s Tumbler range and insulates equally as well.
I carry the half gallon jug in my boat and sometimes the car and simply refill the Tumblers throughout the day. Everything stays cold, even on the hottest days.
It helps to keep the Jug away from direct sunlight for maximum insulation against the heat and adding some ice to the water will extend the length of time it stays cool.
YETI also sells mounts for both size jugs, which is something I plan to install in my boat and car for safe transportation.
YETI makes quality products and the price reflects this, but the amount of money you will save in buying plastic bottles of water or soft drink will soon offset the initial purchase price.
Best of all, rather than contributing to the problem of plastic, you’re actually making a difference.
