TWO fishos in South Australia got the surprise of their life this week when a 3.2m thresher shark jumped into their 4.3m tinny.
According to a report by the ABC, Peter Feast and Jim Ewing were chasing snapper and whiting off Port Macdonnell when something big grabbed one of the baits.
“It (the reel) started screaming. He (Peter Feast) grabbed it and he let it run and it came away. He said, ‘thank God for that, it must have been an eagle ray or something like that’,” Mr Ewing said.
Next thing the pair knew, a thresher shark jumped completely clear of the water three times in quick succession next to the boat before the fourth time saw it land in the tinny.
“It landed flat, bang on the deck of the boat between the two of us,” Ewing said.
Unable to lift the shark clear they secured the massive powerful tail with a rope and headed back in to shore to get help.
Unfortunately the shark didn’t revive when they got back to shore so the pair now have plenty of flake fillets to get through over the next couple of months!
