Screens saving native fish from channel death

DURING irrigation season, thousands of native fish larvae, including Murray cod, are lost down Cohuna’s Number 3 Channel in north-central Victoria.

Now, with the help of these innovative fish screens, fish and larvae will be prevented from entering the irrigation channel and won’t be lost from the breeding population.

The screens are designed with a fine mesh, diffusers and brushes that sweep once a day to keep them free of debris and allow larger fish and animals to swim away. What a fantastic project!
