The 2010 XXXX Gold Barra Nationals, held last weekend on the Northern Territory’s Daly River, has once again proven to be a successful event on the annual tournament calendar.
Full credit goes to the Palmerston Game Fishing Club for arguably the best run comp in years. 2010 was my seventh “Barra Nats” and I’m already looking forward to next year.
Great people, great entertainment, great yarns and a few too many beers combined to make an event to remember for years to come … and how could we forget the fishing? Well, at times it was a hard task just getting a fish to strike but some competitors certainly nailed it at the right time.
Team Got One managed a 103cm barra from the famous S Bends and several in the 80’s range from the main rockbar but I must admit, this was overshadowed by Shane Compain’s Team Tackleworld team’s nailing of a 117cm barra and a string of others around the metre mark for good measure! This was enough to award Team Tackleworld the title of 2010 Barra Nationals champions, and certainly a well deserved win.
Other teams in the winners circle included Team Humminbird, The Classic Warlocks and The Polar Bears in each of their respective categories.
