There have been ripper reports of bluewater mayhem in the Top End this week and it’s not even specific to one particular species. Jewies rocked the boat at Lorna Shoal for Alice Springs local Tony Connor. Positioned on a ledge edge Tony said it was all systems go shortly after anchor touched bottom and the bag limit was hit in short time.
Out around Loee Patches the saddletail snapper were thick, goldies to 3kg came from the outskirts of the shoal and the same crew reported a decent school of macks busting up just shy of cast distance. It’s no secret that there’s some hefty tuna around too and they’ve been located almost everywhere including Dundee Wide, Fenton and inside Darwin Harbour. The fish inside the harbour were estimated at 10kg.
Conditions were absolutely bliss at the weekend and that was backed up by astronomical bait sales here at Got One. As expected, there was a party of boats at Lee Point’s Bottlewasher and surrounding wrecks in search of those magic macks and so far I’ve heard of only two boats that found success on Saturday. One of these big Spaniards weighed 13kg.
It looks like Stokes Hill Wharf has been cranking too. One of our good customers known as “Davey Crocket” caught coral trout and a prized parrotfish during the week – other fishos have been spooled by the unknown.
On the barra scene, coastal creeks out from the Daly Mouth ripped the barra lures to bits with fish nudging 95cm performing for the boys. The same crew rounded out their trip with 5kg goldies from the offshore reefs too.
As we come off the neaps we should continue to see good results for a few days.
